Fee structure

Transparent, fair fees structured to reflect the nature and complexity of the work — so you can make informed decisions before instructions are placed.

Advocates Remuneration Order

For the majority of contentious and non-contentious legal work, our fees are anchored to the Advocates Remuneration Order, 2014, the statutory framework governing advocates’ fees in Kenya. This covers a broad range of services including the sale and purchase of land and property, leases and tenancy agreements, formation and incorporation of business entities, trademark and patent work, election petitions, proceedings before the High Court and subordinate courts, selected tribunal proceedings, and probate and administration matters.

Retainer and time-spent fees

For services outside the scope of the Advocates Remuneration Order — including complex commercial advisory, transactional work, regulatory engagement and other specialist mandates — fees are charged on a retainer or time-spent basis at agreed hourly or daily rates that reflect seniority and expertise. Clients receive a detailed schedule of work undertaken and time recorded.

Debt collection

Non-litigious debt collection is handled on a no-win, no-fee basis. The firm only earns a fee upon successful recovery, typically calculated as an agreed percentage of amounts actually recovered (commonly 20% plus VAT).

Institutional fee agreements

We encourage institutional clients with recurring or high-volume instructions to enter into fee agreements that set agreed rates or structures for ongoing work. Such arrangements usually result in lower overall costs while enabling the firm to dedicate appropriate resources to the relationship.

VAT and disbursements

All fees are exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT), disbursements and Government levies. Disbursements — including court filing fees, registry fees, stamp duty, statutory charges and other out-of-pocket expenses — are charged at cost, with supporting documentation available on request. Anticipated disbursements are advised in advance where practicable.
